Longevity expert, Dan Buettner presents us in this book the planet’s longest and healthiest lived people and their unique communities called Blue Zones.
These communities are Okinawa in Japan, Ikaria in Greece, Sardinia in Italy, Nicoya in Costa Rica and Loma Linda (California) in the US.
All of them share some basic principles like living active lives, getting good sleep, strong family and social connections and spiritual believes. There are no care homes and centenarians live active lives as part of the communities.
They all eat legumes and follow diets centred in plant foods – i.e: Okinawan’s 70% daily calorie intake comes from sweet potatoes. Some of them use animal products as flavouring and eat them in celebrations, others have small amounts on daily basis.
This is the living proof that a Whole Foods Plant Based Diet may be the best diet for human beings.
